墨を立てて磨るか、斜めにして磨るか？小学校ではどちらでも良いと教えているようですが、実際の書家はどうしているか、SNSと知人の書家にアンケートを取りました。優しくゆっくりと磨る事は皆さん同じですが、他に頂いたコメントのメリットやデメリットの中には初めて聞く事もありました。初心者の方にも参考になるかとまとめを記載しておきます。（SNSアンケートは2021年10月FaceBook上の書道グループで取ったものです）

★手では立てて磨るが墨磨り機は少し斜め

★昔の墨は香料のダマがあることが多い。寝かせた方が硯を傷つけにくい。

★立てるのだが力が均等に入らず斜めは斜めでも左右に斜めになる。面倒なのでどんどん斜めになるままにしている。

★斜めだと最後に残りがでて勿体ない（実は継ぐ事が出来ることお伝えしました）

★立てる方が墨の側面が水に触れて欠けやすくなると言う方とその逆がありました。（水の量や磨る角度、力加減によると思われます）

How to grind ink stick, standing your stick or leaning? At elementary schools, they teach either way is fine. How about real calligraphers? I asked the questionnaire on FaceBook and my friends in Oct 2021. Total 66 replies I received. Most of them recommend grind gently as others say, but some comments are new to me. Hope beginners find the result and comments useful too!

★Stand by hand but lean by grinding machine

★Old sticks often have lumps of fragrance. Had better lean to avoid hard lumps damage surface of inkstone

★Stand but cannot keep balance of right and left, then sticks easily slant to right or left. I am too lazy to change sides. So, my sticks go sloping forever!

★Leaning stick may have remained and wasteful. (I recommended to connect with new stick)

★Some say standing will cause chipping as side of stick will touch water but others say leaning will do so. (May depend on volume of water, speed, degree to lean)
